Baviera Golf course is located 2 minutes north of the coast of La Caleta de Velez. The golf course club house is situated a short walk from the costa del sol apartments, and is open to the public. The clubhouse has a restaurant and bar with a large outside terraced dining area.  The club is very informal and a comfortable place to spend the odd evening.

La Caleta de Velez

La Caleta de Velez, is a small town situated between Torre del Mar and Nerja. It is approximately 30 minutes drive east of Malaga. The town has a Marina, beach and several restaurants in easy walking distance of our Costa del sol apartments. It also has some basic shops and a supermarket for your self catering needs. Yacht hire can be arranged at the marina. A beach front walkway has been newly completed and links La Caleta with the larger town of Torre del Mar, and the Algorrobo Costa. This

location is far from your average location for Costa del sol holidays and makes a great start place for golf holidays or Spanish holidays in general.

Algarrobo Costa

The Algorrobo Costa has a beach front Merendero where you can sit and have fresh sardines barbequed over a wood fire. There is plenty of other choice of food, but the sardines have to be experienced. There are plenty of beach front bars all along the Costa where you can sit and relax with a drink whilst watching the blue waters of the Mediterranean sea. Holidays in Spain don't get better than this. **Breaking news** New fish restaraunt and bar opened on the costa, only 10 minutes walk from the apartments.

Self catering doesn't mean staying in and cooking. Beach Merenderos are a favourite way of spending the afternoon for the Spanish Holidaymaker. Below is a family enjoying a traditional Paella and also some of the freshly caught fish being cooked over open charcoals.

Torre Del Mar

Calle Larios in Torre del mar early evening

The Costa del sol apartments at Baviera golf are located a 15 minute stroll from Torre del Mar. Torre del Mar is a large town with a great variety of shopping, tapas bars, cafés, ice cream parlours etc. From the beach front you can see the mountains of the Sierra Tajedas on one side and the rich blue of the Mediterranean on the other. There are Merenderos (restaurants) situated all along the front and the entire area boasts one of the best promenades on the Costa del sol.

Torre del mar is a favourite resort for Spanish tourists from the larger inland cities, as a result the food, drink and atmosphere is wholly Spanish and makes Spanish holidays in this area truly unique.  Winter holidays in Torre del mar are on the increase, but you can still experience the true face of the local life of the Andalucian. In summer, Torre del mar turns into a swell of bars, nightclubs, and other attractions associated with Spanish holidays The 26th of July is the Fiesta of Torre del Mar, This is the festival of the virgin del Carmen, where the locals process a figurine down to the beach with candles and set the figurine

into the sea. This is usually followed by a fantastic fireworks display.

Velez Malaga

A cathedral in Velez Malaga

The Costa del sol golf courses are recognised as a major tourist attraction by the Spanish holidays and tourism government department.  The Baviera golf course is being linked to the town of Velez Malaga by a tram link. Velez Malaga is situated 5km inland from Torre del mar and about 7km from The golf course. It is located on one of the Spanish holidays recommended scenic routes "Route of Sun and Avocado" It is the capital of the Axarquia district. Velez Malaga is not known as a tourist spot and mainly thrives on it's produce. It has a fascinating feel to it with small streets, hidden restaurants and bars. The town has links back to Phoenician and Carthaginian times. Things to see in Velez Malaga include 13th century castle, the palace of the marquises of Beniel, The hospital of San Marcos which was founded in 1487 by Catholic Monarchs, The 16th century church of Santa Maria La Mayor and the 15th Century Church of San Juan Bautista.

Nerja

Nerja, is located 10 minutes drive from the Costa del Sol apartments of the Baviera Golf course. It has 16km of beaches and is a major spot for water sports of all descriptions. Like Torre del Mar and La Caleta, Nerja has avoided the tower block problem associated with much of the Costa del Sol. The town’s old quarter remains mostly unchanged and preserves the classic narrow winding street of the

Andalucian villages. Nerja is probably best known for its “Balcony of Europe” promenade, which runs along the edge of cliff face, and it’s famous caves. The caves include prehistoric remains and paintings, and one of the largest caverns has been turned into a concert hall. During the summer-months regular concerts are staged here.

Competa

Traditional whitewashed andalucian village of Competa

The location guide would not be complete without mentioning Competa. Competa is situated up in the Sierra Almijara and is approximately 700 metres above sea level. Competa can be reached by car in about 20 minutes and the route takes you through the villages of Algorrobbo and Sayalonga. Competa is a traditional Andalucian village, with cobbled streets and a large central square. It is situated in the middle of the large wildlife reserve of the Sierra Almijara. A typical visit to here would be to arrive, wander the streets for a while, grab some refreshments in the town square then spend as long as you like wandering through the beauty of the wildlife reserve. Local facilities include hang-gliding and horse riding.

Malaga

The Baviera Golf course is situated 30 minutes drive east of Malaga, and can be reached by bus from Torre del mar. Malaga itself is an often-overlooked city by travelers to the Costa del Sol. The city has fantastic architecture, first class museums, and has just recently opened the Pablo Picasso exhibition. Architecturally. Malaga can seem uninviting until you reach the centre where it boast some interesting churches and museums.

The fresh produce market is a must for all those wishing to take some of the Spanish delicacies home. For those of you who wish to brave a sore head, then we highly recommend spending some time looking for the Malaga wine bars. These Bars have huge oak barrels full of the local wines and you can sample many different types, go easy though as they are deceptively strong.

Granada

Granada is about 2 and a half hours away by road and features the famous Alhambra and is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevadas and has a spectacular history, first settled

in prehistoric times, colonized by the Romans, Invaded by the Arabs in the 8th century, and fell to the Christians in 1492. Granada contains the famed Alhambra, a series of palaces built by the Moors in the 14th century. The Alhambra is a series of buildings including the Generalife with fountains and gardens. Opposite the Alhabra is the Albaicin a wonderful maze of traditional Andalucian houses and narrow streets. Follow the Albaicin to the top of the hill and you reach the the Plaza de San Nicholas, from here you get a great view of the Alhambra. Keep going north and you get to the Alcaiceria, a rich area for gifts and souvenirs.  The photo to the left shows traditional Verdiales singers.

Sierra Nevadas

The Sierra Nevadas can be reached within 3 hours and the high mountain passes offer spectacular views over valleys. These locations are a favourite with hang gliders. Sierra
